Are the winter months harder for you to maintain?

We all get a little down when we go from longer days to longer nights, but if you constantly feel sad and find it hard to get out of bed you might be experiencing seasonal depression (SAD).

 

What is Seasonal Depression?

Seasonal Depression or SAD  is a form of depression that is experienced during the season when the weather has dropped and there is less sunlight.

Seasonal depression can also happen during other season, but is less common.

 

How to Fight Seasonal Depression   

There are coping strategies for fighting seasonal depression. Here are our top three suggestions when pushing through seasonal depression.

1. Get some rest 

Naps and me time are important but so is a sleep routine. Alexander Korb PhD, says, a healthy sleep schedule aids decreasing stress and increasing your mood. 

2. Follow the pace of the sunlight    

Follow your natural Vitamin D. Expose your home and your body to the sun during the day for energy and serotonin. Some people even take pills like Vitamin D to give themselves a little boost.

3. Stay active    

Exercising puts you in a great mood. Find your groove (boxing, gym, pilates, yoga, etc) and get active. Exercising is also compared to light therapy for those who struggle with seasonal depression.
